Autobahn by Night
Reflections in a rear-view mirror. Suburban streetlights. A long drive that doesn't end.
Three layers, drawn from a palette of electric piano, soft synth, atmospheric noise, low bass washes, real recordings of hail on metal, and a Schmid synthesizer captured at SuperBooth Berlin. Most of these layers are multi-sampled across the keyboard, so each note carries its own character rather than being stretched from a single source.
Seventeen presets, each pulling from its own sample set, switching presets is closer to changing
the weather than tweaking a sound.
A small percussion kit lives underneath, sampled from the car itself: doors opening from inside and outside, electric windows, several door slams. The car is a Volvo EX40.
Made for ambient music, lo-fi, film score work, and anything that benefits from a little grit and travel.
